What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small data file placed in your browser on a device (computer, smartphone or tablet) on which you are viewing the web pages. Its purpose is to help the web pages you browse work properly and display the right content. Most browsers automatically accept cookies, unless they are configured otherwise.
They help remember your activities and preferences for a certain amount of time, so you don't have to re-enter them when you return to a web page or go from page to page. Information from cookies can subsequently be used for targeted advertising, statistical evaluation of visitor behaviour, etc.
